"Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin." -Mother Teresa

Prior to joining the firm in March 2012, Jim was an Assistant Attorney General with the Tennessee Attorney General's Office in Nashville for nearly six years. While at the AGO, Jim defended the State of Tennessee in tort and workers' compensation cases involving Tennessee Department of Transportation and Department of Safety employees. Jim has tried cases in the United States District Courts of Tennessee, Tennessee state courts, Tennessee Claims Commission, and has successfully briefed and argued before the Tennessee Court of Appeals. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals, 6th Circuit.

Jim's primary focus has been torts-based civil litigation - with an emphasis on personal injury, wrongful death, and property damage claims - as well as Section 1983 civil rights actions. Since joining the firm, Jim has expanded his practice to also serve clients with business formation, basic estate planning, and copyright/trademark issues.

Education: Jim received his J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law where he was on the Tennessee Law Review, serving as a Student Materials Editor and receiving the TLR's Third Year Award. Jim was also involved with the Christian Legal Society, the Trademark Moot Court team, and the Knox County Public Defender's Externship Program. Jim earned his Bachelor of Music degree, cum laude, from North Texas State University where he majored in music theory and minored in percussion. While at NTSU, Jim also studied composition and arranging and was active in NTSU's Lab Bands.

Personal: Jim is married to McLauren Pearman Foster and they are the delighted parents of two vigorous boys. Jim and McLauren are active in their home church, have participated in numerous short-term mission trips, and were also founding members of The Crucible, a discipling school for Christians of the Arts. Jim also enjoys volunteering with Compassionate Counsel of Middle Tennessee. Jim speaks German fluently - having lived overseas for 11 years - and somewhere along the way contracted an incurable case of wanderlust, visiting more than 50 countries while traveling in Central and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and India.
